KML CC teams battled eight opposing schools and 80 degree temperatures at the Dave Drexler CC Invite hosted by Kewaskum HS at Hon-E-Kor Golf Course, the site of KML’s very first cross country meet 20 years ago.  Hot weather added another facet to the challenge of covering 5000 meters of hilly terrain.

The Girls Varsity team was in a battle with Hartford, taking 2nd, missing 1st by 10 points, as Katie Miller led the team with a 2nd place season fastest time of 21:33.71, only 14 seconds behind Harford’s top runner who finished in 1st place.  Naomi Gahan took 5th, 10 seconds behind the Hartford runner she was chasing for 4th.  KML’s Ameillia Wedward and Rachel Frey came in 14th and 15th overall, also chasing two Hartford Orioles who were just ahead finishing in  9th and 13th  place.  The Orioles and Chargers duked it out battling for 16-19th place, but Hartford took 16th and 17th with 23:22 (PR) and 23:29, while KML’s Kiley Huckstorf finished less than a second behind in 17th and Peyton Weber 3 seconds later with a season best performance of 23:34 in 18th.  Both Hartford and KML placed 6 girls each in the top 20, but Hartfords’ slightly faster finishes totaling 41 points awarded them the 1st place trophy, placing KML in 2nd with 51.  Carissa Kneser filled KML’s seventh Varsity spot, finishing 28th.  The Girls JV took 3rd place led by Rachel Gahan.  Rhaea Lehman and Libby Markgraf both ran to personal bests in their race.

The Boys Varsity finished in 4th with 84 points.  Hartford also won the Boys division with 62 points.  Jacob Stoltz led the way finishing in 4th in 17:46.  Austin Knoeck finished in 6th with a 12 second personal best time of 18:29.  Micah Dykema (21st), Isaiah Zhou (28th), Jacob Anderson (31st) and Branden Ulm (32nd) placed in the Varsity race as well.  Zach Kraus led the boys JV to a 4th place finish as he finished in 4th overall.  Noah Jaskolski posted a personal best for the day as well.  Altogether, KML’s varsity runners claimed 6 medals for day with their top 20 place finishes.
