On Saturday, March 16th, the Chargers Track and Field team excitedly kicked off their season with a highly competitive indoor meet at UW-Parkside. In a field of mainly Division 1 teams, Alexa Schwalenberg had a standout performance, taking 1st place in the 1600M run. On top of her 1st place performance, Alexa also set a new KML freshman record in the mile, running a time of 5:30.21! Alexa’s record-breaking time beat the old record of 5:34.24, putting her within two seconds of the overall school record of 5:28.66. Her time was also notable, as it was the 7th fastest time in the state, so far this year. Congratulations on this awesome accomplishment, Alexa!
The scoring continued for the KML ladies’ team as Lexi Cramer took 5th in the 400M dash with a time of 1:05.94. Peyton Weber landed 5th in the triple jump, with a hop, skip, and jump totaling 32′ 1.5 inches. This mark matches where Peyton ended the 2018 season, tying her Regional performance. Emily Wittig had a strong day in the triple jump, as well, setting a new personal record of 30′ 0 inches. Emma Pagel followed suite, setting a new PR in the high jump, clearing 4’8 inches, for a strong 6th place. Rounding out the scoring for the ladies was the 4x400M relay team of Savannah Huckstorf, Emily Wittig, Emma Pagel, and Lexi Cramer. The team placed 7th out of 17 teams, with a time of 4:42.76.
On the guys team, freshman Logan Measner had a very strong performance in the 1600M, running a sub 5 race, finishing in 4:54.12, which was good for 13th place out of 35 competitors. Keegan Kabelowsky enjoyed a PR in the 400M dash running a time of 1:00.19.
