Coed Varsity Cross Country · CC has Memorable Moments in Mukwonago

October 3, 2019 Mukwonago CC Meet

Mucky sections to run through following several days of rain made course conditions less than ideal for larger numbers of faster times at the Mukwonago CC Invite on Thursday night but the temperatures were terrific for competitive races.  The windy, open field sections of the course were more than compensated for in the protected areas that ran through wooded forests and trails in the tall prairie grasses.

Seventeen of the thirty-three Chargers that toed up to the line increased their pace in the second half of the two loop course  in their efforts to hurry home and get to the finish line as fast as possible.  The range of improvements was 1 second to Peter Ma’s 18 second improvement and Logan Measner’s 20 second speed up.   Eleven Chargers ran this course for the first time.  Of the 22 returning, five posted better course times with the following improvements:  Tristan Rau, 27 seconds, Carissa Kneser 35 seconds, Alison Foxen 52 seconds, Daphne Jacak 1:45, and Libby Markgraf knocking 2:12 off her previous course best while also setting an 18 race personal best dropping her time by another 1:05 for a new PR of 30:10.   Season records were also posted by Allison Gold improving on the season by 31 seconds and Logan Measner by 24.

Competition is fierce with half of the teams being D1 schools with close to 100 athletes in their arsenal.  Although our girls Varsity had the best packed team with only 1:27 separating the 1st to 5th place finisher, the pack was further back placing 14th of 15 complete teams.  Abby Poehlman was the first across the line in 39th place in 22:17.   The JV Girls finished 6th of 12 teams for their best team finish in three years led by Kyra Schopper finishing 15th in 23:47.  The JV Boys placed 8th of 12 teams for their best team finish in four years.  Isaiah Zhou and Tristan Rau fueled each other’s races finishing in 34th and 35th in 20:56 and 20:59.   The Varsity Boys were announced for their 5th place finish of 14 teams with 136 points only 8 points behind USM but also claiming the best 1st to 5th runner differential of only 1:13.    Austin Knoeck led the way for majority of the race with Logan Measner passing him in the final K for 10th and 12th place finishes in 17:50 and 17:51.  Maxwell Schmidt took the 3rd position for the Chargers in 33rd place in 18:52.  Matthew Boxrud finished in 19:03.1 and Joshua Anhalt in 19:03.4 with a push to the finish all out sprint race for 40th and 41st place.

Special thanks for dedication and commitment from Seniors Peyton Weber, Matthew Hahn and Max Banner on racing in Mukwonago for all four of their HS years.
