2019 KML CC at Sectionals On the Mayville Golf Course
Two CC Chargers Qualify for State
Sophomores Logan Measner and Abigail Poehlman continue the cross country teams 15 year history of sending a representative to state that was only interrupted in 2006. Logan returns to state for the 2nd year in a row and Abby will experience it for the first time. Returning to Mayville for Sectionals, both Chargers earned the 4th of 5 individual qualifier positions after fierce competition throughout their 5K races. Logan finished in 4th overall ensuring his bid to state with a time of 16:55 which was 32 seconds and 1 place faster than his sectional time at Mayville last year. Abby finished in 9th and waited anxiously to hear the results to see how many girls in front of her might be on one of the two teams to qualify for state thus eliminating them from the top 5 individual competition. Five competitiors in front of her were on qualilfying teams placing Abby in the 4th individual advancer position with a finish time of 20:57 which was over 2 minutes and 40 places better than her 2018 sectional time and nearly a minute faster than her Mayville time from earlier this year.
Austin Knoeck ran a solid 17:04 6th place overall finish, 42 seconds faster and one place higher than last year but the individual field was stronger this year so Austin narrowly missed the bid for state. Joshua Anhalt was 3rd across the line with a 14 second course best and only 2 seconds away from his overall best. Matthew Boxrud improved his sectional time by 41 seconds and 10 places from his 2018 appearance. Maxwell Schmidt also ran a course best by 6 seconds. Max Banner tied his overall PR exactly at 19:03.49 and improved his Mayville time by 34 seconds. Logan Hennen just missed his PR by less than a second which was at Mayville earlier this year and improved his sectional time by 78 seconds and 32 places. The boys finished 4th of 14 teams with 130 points.
Freshman Kyra Schopper was 2nd Charger across the line and the only Charger to set a personal best with a 4 second improvement from her Conference time last week and 59 seconds from Mayville earlier this year. Carissa Kneser improved her course time by 30 seconds. Savannah Huckstorf, Daphne Jacak, Reegan Siegal and Peyton Weber were the other Chargers placing the team in 7th of 14 teams.
