Game Recap

After a difficult start to the week, the captains of the KML varsity soccer squad lead their team in responding to a loss with determination and renewed passion in a 8-1 victory. The Chargers faced the challenge of how to deal with a difficult loss to Plymouth and the much more difficult loss of Coach Barry Washburn, a strong supporter of the KML soccer program and coach of over ten years, who was called to his eternal home on October 5th. Captains Joey Behm and Joseph Raasch recognized the opportunity to dedicate this match to Coach Washburn and his family. The team wore blue shirts during warm-ups and blue wrist bands during the game. Blue is the color of the National Ataxia Foundation. Coach Washburn suffered from ataxia during the final years of his life. The team also presented a blue soccer ball signed by the team to the Washburn family after a ceremonial kickoff. Joey Behm netted the first goal and led the team in acknowledging Coach Washburn’s role in the building a tradition of excellence in KML soccer. After Ethan Duba put in the second goal and then assisted the third goal to Joseph Raasch, Raasch then assisted Behm to give the Chargers a 4-0 lead only 15 minutes into the match. KML continued to control play with good passing and strong communication. To start the second half Behm assisted Raasch for the fifth goal. Jacob Moeller then netted two goals and Jake Semenske converted the final goal of the match assisted by Collin Liesener. The Chargers showed reverence and a mature perspective by dedicating a great effort to a man that had a profound influence on the KML soccer family.

Game Recap

The junior varsity boys’ soccer team traveled to Plymouth looking to avenge thier only conference loss suffered at the hands of the Panthers back on September 8th. The Chargers came out poised and in control with good ball possession and multiple attacks offensively. The Chargers were also able to get first strike in the 12th minute when they scored on a nice crossing pass from Riley McCaughn to Matt Koskinen who got a good foot on the pass and scored. Six minutes later the Panthers got on the scoreboard with a Charger “own goal.” The two teams battled back and forth until the 44th minute in the second half when the Panthers were able to put their second goal on the scoreboard. The Chargers continued to mount attacks but where unable to score again. The Panthers did put the exclamation point on the hard fought battle with a goal in the 65th minute. The Chargers look to bounce back when they play Winnebago Lutheran Academy at home on Friday.
