Your Charger Boys pulled off an ugly win over cross town rival Kewaskum, 40-34, to join the prestigious club of KML Conference Champions. There are only a handful of Charger Boys Basketball teams that have been able to call themselves conference champions, so this is a major success and something the boys should be proud of. The final game of the season was not as clean and dominating as the Chargers wanted because Kewaskum threw a tough zone defense against the Chargers that stifled the offense and disjointed the game flow. The Chargers responded in kind with tough defense and full court pressure throughout the game which made up for the Charger’s lack of offense. Even though the offense was lacking, the Chargers were lead by Solomon Zarling’s 12 points, and Grant Biesterfeld’s key 8 point performance. Biesterfeld was a strong link in maintaining the offense and ramping up the defense. On offense he was able to exploit weaknesses and get easy baskets and on defense he provided tough ball pressure and routinely disrupted Kewaskum’s offensive flow.

While it is good to celebrate being conference champions, the Chargers now focus on the goal ahead of them, a State Championship. The Chargers received the #4 seed in what is shaping up to be a very tough regional grouping with the likes of Brown Deer, Dominican, and Brookfield Academy. The first hurdle the team needs to overcome on their journey to a State title is Cristo Rey Jesuit on Tuesday, 2/27, at home.
