The Chargers erased a couple big deficits to put the game into overtime and held the Highlanders to a single point in the extra frame to cap off the victory. Homestead jumped out to an 11-2 lead to start the game and then KML’s offense finally got going and tied the game at 12. It was close for the rest of the first half, but Homestead hit a couple shots and led by 6 at the half. The Chargers trailed by as much as 11 in the second half and with 4 minutes left in the game they were down 46-37. KML then went on a 10-0 run with Ryen Pagano scoring an inside basket, Grace Cain hitting 2 free throws and a jumper, and Rachel Frey hitting the next couple baskets. Up 47-46, the Chargers committed a foul with 25 seconds left and Homestead made one of two free throws to put the game in overtime. Lexi Kudek then hit 2 free throws and a layup for KML’s first 4 points in overtime and the defense took over from there. Rachel Frey led the team with 15 points and 5 steals. Lexi Kudek scored 10 points for the Chargers and had a couple steals. Grace Cain cleaned up on the boards with 7 rebounds and also added 8 points. This win moves KML’s record to 8-1 on the season. Next up is a trip to Ripon on Thursday for a conference matchup.
